10 REALLY EASY THINGS YOU CAN DO WHEN YOU’RE FEELING DOWN

It is horrible to feel depressed or anxious. I have experienced both – thankfully now I don’t feel as bad as I used to, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have my own down days (or weeks) every once in a while. Below are a few tips that I find really help me when I feel a bit shitty, and hopefully they will be able to help you.

10 REALLY EASY THINGS YOU CAN DO WHEN YOU'RE FEELING DOWN  10 REALLY EASY THINGS YOU CAN DO WHEN YOU'RE FEELING DOWN 10 REALLY EASY THINGS YOU CAN DO WHEN YOU'RE FEELING DOWN

#1 | Set Daily Goals |

I can’t be the only one who loves the feeling of crossing off a task on a to-do list. Creating a list of even all the ‘easy’ tasks like Getting up or Make the Bed will leave you with a sense of accomplishment.

#2 | Plan Activities |

This is the hardest one to follow through, but try and make plans as often as possible, make plans with friends, book in for a massage or a manicure. I know that it’s sometimes hard to stick to, as sometimes you really don’t want to leave the house, but no one if going to judge you if you do cancel, the fact is that you made the plans in the first place. Double points if you do go!

#3 | Talk About It |

Personally, I find it so hard to talk about my feelings to anyone, because I just feel like I’m bothering them. I end up keeping it in and feeling 100 times worse. I have a counsellor, and I find these sessions so great. I would really recommend anyone feeling depressed or anxious to see someone like this. I started to see someone through the NHS, but eventually I just decided to go private and pay for my sessions. It’s expensive, but at the moment I feel like it really helps. But for those of you don’t have one, talk to your friends and family. It can be hard, but I guarantee you will feel so much better.

#4 | Get Creative |

My favourite one! Do anything creative. You’ll be so surprised at how much it calms you down. There is so much you can do, draw something, colour in a colouring book, sew something, bake something.

#5 | Get Moving |

I hate exercising. Like, with a passion. But I can’t deny how good it makes me feel after. Anytime you’re feeling down, just go for a little walk, or a run if you wish, or dance along to your favourite song. Which brings me to my next point…

#6 | Listen To Happy Songs |

I always think music can make your mood. Sad songs will make you sad, and vice versa. Make a great playlist of happy songs, and also songs you used to listen to when you were younger, my go to playlist at the moment consists mainly of Hilary Duff and Beyonce (#girlpower).

#7 | Watch Something Happy |

Stick something funny and easy to watch on. For me, it will usually it will be a re-run of ‘Friends’ that I have watched 100’s of times before, but still makes me laugh.

#8 | Meditate |

I’m not going to lie, I have tried meditation a few times before, but I don’t think I have the patience for it. I wish I did, because it did make me feel really relaxed. Try it out for yourself, have a look on youtube for some videos. If you don’t have time, or don’t want to meditate, try just taking a few deep breaths for about 20-30 seconds.

#9 | Be Around Good People |

I always tend to shut myself off from people when I’m feeling down. Although you need some time to do nothing and maybe cry, it’s not good to be alone all the time. Go out with your friends, if you can’t face a big group of people, try and see one friend at once. If your friends are anything like mine, you’ll be so glad of their company, and forget about everything for a bit, which is what you need.

#10 | Accept It |

When you’re upset or anxious, accept it. Realise that you do feel down, and that it is perfectly normal and fine too. Be kind to yourself, and don’t let yourself feel any worse for feeling how you do.

Do you have any other ways that you help yourself to stop feeling down, let me and others know!?
